Welcome to Kennet Valley Driving Group

Kennet Valley Driving Group is a Carriage Driving branch of Riding for the Disabled Association.

The Kennet Valley Driving Group is a registered charity (number 1074359) that enables adults with disabilities to enjoy the pleasure of carriage driving across the Wiltshire countryside by providing specially adapted carriages and trained, reliable horses supported by experienced able-bodied carriage drivers or RDA whips. Disabled drivers (also called disabled whips or DW’s) drive carriages, can participate in grooming, harnessing and putting horses to the carriage with the support of the RDA whips and volunteers.

Drivers become part of a friendly, social group who have the opportunity to drive in beautiful countryside, and learn new skills.  Based at Lockeridge, just outside Marlborough in Wiltshire, the Group has access to the beautiful Marlborough Downs with fantastic driving and stunning views.

The Group’s aim is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities that sometimes limits their activities.  Driving a horse and carriage gives participants the feeling of freedom from their disability, the ability to get on the move and enjoy a sport on an equal footing.  The Group enables people with a wide range of disabilities to enjoy a physical activity, in good company, in the great outdoors – safely.
